Dean started playing guitar in 1964 after seeing the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show. He learned from friends and played mostly by ear. Dean realized he needed more structure in his playing so in 1974 he began studying the classical guitar with Richard Wisner at Mendoza's.
Dean discovered that teaching was something he loved, and in 1978, he started teaching at Mendoza's. Dean was also the faculty guitar instructor at Indiana University at South Bend from 1980 to 2002. He currently teaches at Saint Mary's College, where he has been the faculty guitarist since 1985.
Dean performs with his student Andy Peck, as the Mendoza's Guitar Duo.
The gift of music is one of the most wonderful things we have in life. Dean hopes he can pass on his love of music to all of his students.
